Software Solution to Aging Analog Devices:
On contract with TRW, AdaRose
developed, prototyped and demonstrated an artillery gun laying system software
design intended to improve the reliability and life cycle cost of the M109A6
Paladin Automatic Fire Control System (AFCS) gun servo system. The improvement
included substituting inertial navigation system rate data for the rate data
currently being supplied by the Azimuth and Elevation tachometers. The current
tachometers are analog devices and are experiencing high failure rates in the
field. The prototype software was successfully demonstrated and resulted in
a follow-on task to provide a fieldable
version of this prototype effort.
